Day 1 - Boston, Massachusetts

We bounced (plenty of turbulence) in to Boston on a Delta Airlines Boeing 767 - most impressive and plenty of leg room even in the "cheap seats". We are part of a group of 14 intrepid travellers and it is probably fair to say that we have brought the average age down by a good 10 years!

We stay in Boston for two nights at the Marriott Copley Square hotel that is bang in the centre of downtown - very handy for the Prudential Centre and specifically for its Skywalk Observatory that is situated on the 50th floor and which offers, especially on a clear day like today, spectacular views in every direction. It stands adjacent to the tallest building in New England, The Hancock Tower that also has an observation floor but it has not been accessible to the public since the 9/11 terror attacks. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours in the late afternoon taking in the stunning views from the Skywalk and also reading all about the history of the city of Boston via the colourful and informative displays.

Dinner was taken at the Cheesecake Factory located in the mall at the base of the Prudential Centre. We revelled in the delights of Deep Fried Cheese and "Hot Nashville" Chicken Nuggets (accompanied by a house salad, of course!) leaving just enough room for a portion of Banana Cream Cheesecake washed down with an Oreo Milkshake. No cholesterol test due anytime soon........ I am reliably informed by my cultural attache (Miss Tracey) that the Cheesecake Factory in Boston features in a TV programme, The Big Bang Theory. Apparently Sheldon works there. No, me neither........

That's about it - we've been up for 23 hours so bed calls as we are fading fast.

  1. Oh, stop with the descriptions of cheesecake - you have got me drooling already! Glad you had a good (if bumpy) flight, hope your travelling companions don't prove too interesting otherwise you might not want us along next time. 😥
